Most clients I’ve sat on my chair are unfamiliar with Tom Ford’s Shade and Illuminate. The thing is, they don’t know how to use it. These clients often asks me to show how it’s done.
Before I tell you how. Let me give you a short story behind it.
First and Foremost:
“I WANT TO CREATE THE FIRST TRUE LUXURY BRAND OF THE 21ST CENTURY.” – TOM FORD
Tom Ford does not use the word “Contouring” to enhance a woman’s facial features; he calls it “Face Architecture”, which ties into his background as an Architect. For Tom Ford, “any woman, at any age or features, can create a complete look in which her individual beauty is amplified and she appears to radiate from within.” Which means, his line of sensuous and glamorous products allows anyone to fully express themselves.
Tom Ford’s flawless complexion philosophy is to bring out a woman’s beauty to its full potential, he believes in sculpting the appearance of the bone structure using illumination and shadow. ***ding ding ding***
What we are trying to achieve is a transformational effect of a beautiful illusion of symmetry and balance — an architecture of face.
What exactly is a Shade and Illuminate?
It is a set of highlighting and shading creams designed to make “contouring” remarkably simple. The lighter shade draws the light onto the skin to brighten and lift the face, while the darker shade defines facial structure and contour.
It is non-streaking, non-acnegenic and dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested.
How to Apply?
Use one side of the Shade and Illuminate brush (#4) to swipe the darkest cream starting near the ear, pushing the brush along the underside of the cheekbone, hairline at temples and underside of jaw line. Blend until a subtle hue remains.
To illuminate the face, use the other side of the Shade and Illuminate brush to apply the light cream to the top of the cheekbones, brow bone and very slightly from forehead down the center of the nose. Blend well until you see a subtle and elegant effect.
There are Two types of Shade and Illuminate: Intensity One for medium skin, and Intensity Two for Fair and Dark skin.
